There have been other suits attempting to link Risperdal to causing excess weight gain, diabetes, and heart attacks, but so far those cases were either dismissed or had the outcomes reversed. A Maryland man named Nicholas Murray successfully sued Johnson & Johnson over this claim and was awarded $680,000 by a Philadelphia jury. The primary claim in Risperdal lawsuits is that male plaintiffs received no warning that they could grow breasts through ongoing usage of the drug. Casper ultimately ruled in favor of Janssen, having determined that the plaintiff failed to demonstrate proper causation in the case.Īs of November 2021, Johnson & Johnson had settled substantially all of the pending Risperdal lawsuits related to development of male breasts. There is research that suggests a link between Risperdal and increased prolactin levels. This change is said to be due to elevated prolactin levels caused by taking risperidone. Starting in 2010, Johnson & Johnson became the subject of thousands of lawsuits by men alleging that Risperdal use caused them to experience a condition known as gynecomastia or growth of excessive breast tissue. At least one plaintiff who sued Johnson & Johnson began to take the drug as a very young child to treat autism.
